The 2021 Working Class Writer Grant Winner

Below is a screenshot taken from the Speculative Literature Foundation's website announcing me as this year's winner of their Working Class Writer Grant. It was wonderful news!! Their foundation has been doing great work supporting new and young writers and offers a number of grants throughout the year. I am absolutely thrilled to win this grant.

It is so important to stop and celebrate the gains. The feedback I received on the work I submitted with my proposal was the boost I needed to keep me focused on my story-crafting after a long set of rejections.

An Amazon Reader Review for My Story in Unburied

One of my favorite reviews for "When the Dust Settles" is from a reader, E. Smock, on Amazon:

"Tara owes The Company since she signed the contract, but now she's hospitalized after an accident in the mines that she can't quite remember. The Company has supplied neural integrated prosthetics so she can get back to the mines, but she's having trouble making them move. What will Tara find once she starts remembering the events of the accident? Will she ever be able to fully use her prosthetics so she can pay off her debt?

This also would be even better as a longer story. I was wanting to learn more about Tara, her friends, The Company, and the accident. I was really sad to see it end."

A.M. Ink Publishing Sales Raised Money for Rainbow Railroad

Thank you so much to everyone who bought a copy of Unburied: A Collection of Queer Dark Fiction. The editor, Rebecca Rowland, donated all of her royalties to Rainbow Railroad, a group that works to help gay people, globally, living in countries were it is unsafe to be queer. The sales raised $500 towards their efforts.

I am grateful to everyone to helped contribute to that gift.

Reviews for "When the Dust Settles"

Reviews have come in for the anthology Unburied: A Collection of Queer Dark Fiction. Here's what some people are saying about my story. Full disclosure, two other reviewers mentioned my story as the one they didn't care for but I already know I'm not everyone's cup of tea.

“When the Dust Settles” by Sarah Lyn Eaton (short story) - A story of bodily autonomy as the survivor of a cave-in adjusts to a new robotic arm and leg that don’t seem to be integrating well. The piece is intense and looks at the line between the human machine and less biological machines, and the feeling of invasion and disconnection that comes from traumatic injuries. A fine read!

"When the Dust Settles" by Sarah Lyn Eaton: 4.5 Stars!

"Now, this is an interesting story, one I definitely wish was a full-length book. I could vividly picture it and while I may not be a huge fan of Sci-Fi it definitely gave off a cool RoboCop/Terminator kind of vibe for me."

"Sarah Lyn Eaton creates a chilling tale of off-world horror in “When the Dust Settles,” where an injured asteroid miner is recovering from her wounds, but does not remember her accident. She has been fitted with some prosthetic limbs which she is still learning to control, or are they learning her?"

"I also enjoyed Sarah Lyn Eaton’s “When the Dust Settles,” an interesting SF/horror story about an asteroid miner’s accident and the replacement limb she receives as a result. "

"Shifting gears to science-fiction realms, "When the Dust Settles" by Sarah Lyn Eaton takes us off-world, where mining laborers are as expendable as the automated body parts they require after accidents. But where does the human end and the robotic appendage begin?"
